Features that Date Your Home

time to update

Want to get the best deal for your home, and fast?  You may want to consider some updates.  The “Retro” look may be back in style for fashion and furniture, but most homebuyers will not see truly outdated details as attractive selling points when shopping for a new home.  In the latest Own It video, interior designer and HGTV host Carriann Johnson explains how to bring your house up-to-date and achieve its full selling potential.

Some things that date your home:

  • Popcorn ceilings.
  • Tiled countertops.
  • Brass fixtures.

Other tips and tricks:

  • Low budget?  Don’t overdo it.  Even small changes, like new light fixtures or cabinets, can make a big difference.
  • Get a second opinion.  Sometimes it’s difficult to decide what changes you really need to make.  Ask a friend, family member, or your real estate agent for advice.
  • Surf the web for inspiration.  Social media platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook are great places to look for ideas and see what other people are doing to improve their homes.
